George St was buzzing on a Saturday night and things inside the Metro were just heating up. Feel-good rockers Dappled Cities Fly took to the stage with high spirits. They played their usual brand of live music, with a tight set and plenty of style. One thing that is easily noticeable from watching this bunch on stage is just how much they enjoy themselves playing live.
Creeping up to 11pm, and on came Gerling. Immediately, fans were showing signs of excitement towards a band renowned for their ability to propitiate their audience. Busting head first into a roaring set, the band waged war on the eardrums of hundreds. Probably not the same level of enthusiasm exerted as usual Gerling crowds, though the band still did their best to please.
Gerling4, the latest musical installment from the electric/dance-rock/ supersonic-punk trio, is quickly gaining interest across the country. With their infective melodies and numerous high-energy anthems, hopefully we will see the band on more festival bills this year.
Quirky and humble, the boys from Gerling churned out the hits- Who’s Ya Daddy?, High Jackers Manual and In The City to name a few. Giant beach balls were released into the crowd for a couple of songs to give some added fun. Wearing a red retro jacket, Darren asked the crowd if he looked more like Peter Andre or Michael Jackson. In case you were wondering it was definitely Michael Jackson.
Standing beside Alex from DCP, even he was out in the crowd enjoying the tunes. Turning The Screws, a single off the new album was warmly welcomed and will hopefully find a permanent spot in future set-lists.
It is safe to say that where there is Gerling, there is drunken dancing. Tonight kept the tradition alive, with many failing to contain their alcoholic beverages within their plastic retaining devices. As a result I was forced to wash my hair the following morning (you know who you are).
