“Shut-up and listen…”
Their official bio suggested a “blistering live performance” (as demonstrated in their clip for “Fast Girl”) and as clichéd as it sounds, the boys from Gyroscope certainly lived up to this hype!

On a cold, misty and wet Friday night, hundreds of Indie-Punk fans ventured out to the infamous Gaelic Club in Sydney for much more than a quiet night in.
The night kicked off with The Critics, a little known band from Gyro’s home state of WA, They were everything you would ask for from the first support band – providing a (if not loud) soundtrack for the punters to begin drinking, jostling for prime positions on the floor and to queue for the toilets!
Next up was The Breeders from New Zealand. It was at this point I regretted not bringing my ear plugs – No that this hot Alterno/Indie Screamo/Punk band was bad, quite the opposite, they literally blew the crowd away. Also at this time The Breeders bred two punch-ups among some macho boys at the front. The whole crowd banded together and let the offenders thrash it out while The Breeders continued their brief, but tight and well-polished set.
Finally at 10.45pm and after a few lame chants of “Gyro” and claps from the crowd, the feature of the night Gyroscope ambled onto the stage and launched straight into a breathtaking version of “Driving From The Storm”. Immediately Daniel appeared amongst the crowd at the front of the stage and everyone was visibly buzzing.
The boys played an energetic, well-rehearsed and completely amped set, with the highlight being the crowd sing-along to their hit single “Fast Girl”.
At first listen to their recent release “Are You Involved?” you can imagine an angst-ridden Emo band prancing around the stage and perhaps taking themselves all too seriously. But Gyroscope certainly turned this assumption upside down with their relaxed and warm stage presence and honest performance.
A must-see Aussie band that have come so far and will go much further with time and maturity…just remember to wear your ear plugs!
