Tim weilds the Windmills...

A decade or more ago, Tim Rogers was described as being the spokesman of a generation. He was, and remains, a man true to himself and the things in which he believes. A creative force, incapable of selling out to fashion. A man committed to facial hair at all costs. Rogers is a man unlike a spokesman of a previous generation, Peter Garret, in all ways except one - importance. It would seem that Rogers continues to represent that generation.

Tonight You Am I are at the start of their latest tour and the venue is Sydney's Metro. The Metro holds a very special place in the You Am I story and it is fantastic to see these guys at home. Much to the band's delight, tracks from Convicts are as well received as the tunes from the back catalogue – Thank God I’ve Hit The Bottom, Gunslingers and My Own Hand sit comfortably along side Applecross Wing Commander, Baby Clothes and Watcha Doin To Me. They might even be better. The response from the audience lifts You Am I to greater heights. The show lifts in intensity.

Davey wields his axe as skillfully as big Dave Foster at the Easter Show. Rusty is a driving force and Junk has never rocked so well. Andy Kent has purchased some new boots for the occasion. Tim rounds out more windmills than Holland.

This show is a vindication of You Am I's commitment to doing music the right way - their way. You Am I's music comes from the heart, not the target market feedback surveys. Tim comments on the recent ARIA awards, manufactured rock stars and haircuts. "Let me tell you a story about the joker and the thief," he recommends before launching into the next tune. The crowd goes wild. Rock stars are born.
