The Herd kicked off the Trampled tour in Launceston with an energetic set at the Saloon Bar. To start the crowd was disappointingly small, but the beats were big and filled the room. The band didn't seem put off by the lack of numbers - hey it's Tassie, they probably expected it - and delivered a high energy, fun show. In fact the size of the crowd made for a more intimate gig, the band wasable to interact with the audience, have a laugh, and relax themselves. The atmosphere was goodtime easygoing. There was enough room to move on the floor, and people took full advantage to cut loose.
Most of the favourites were there - 77%, of course, I Was Only 19, with Unpredicatable saved for the encore. There was a new number that was easily as good as the standbys, judging by the height the jumping crowd reached. The band was in great form, their voices in good shape and they seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd. The only let-down was the exclusion of their Mischief number - maybe next time.
Worth mentioning too, is their support act, Heads of State. I hadn't heard these boys from Hobart before, but now I'm keen to hear them again. More polish than I usually expect from a Tassie hip-hop team, with some great bouncing tunes - listen out for their Holding It Down number, and if you get a chance, check them out.
