There is a lot to be said for a metal band whose audience comprises of a mix of death metal, nu metal, hardcore and grindcore enthusiasts. That band is Sweden’s Amon Amarth, whose fusion of Viking mythology and imagery in their music and lyrics, along with epic, sweeping melodies set to the tune of traditional death metal, has won them fans from all walks of life. Not an easy feat, considering how protective some fans can be about metal and its many, carefully segregated sub-genres. Yet it’s working for Amon Amarth, who have quietly but rapidly made their mark overseas as one of the hottest properties in the scene.
In a New Year’s resolution that will be kept, Amon Amarth will invade Australia in early January 2008 with the promise of conquering this last slice of the world.
