Frontman DC Root is this country's most original, articulate, angry, funny singer/songwriter/spoken word artist. His band contains two former members of Ice Cream Hands, a German-born movie soundtrack composer and a keyboard prodigy who has played with the likes of Eric Burdon and Crowded House.
And there's DC's past, which he does not discuss. ROOT! is unlike any of these artists. Root! is a raucous, melodic, hard-rocking bar band with lyrics that defy categorisation - whose shows include spontaneous, rambling, funny monologues and moments of unexpected performance art - but they are not a comedy act.
ROOT! are currently finishing their new album, scheduled for release in July, a 16 track song cycle called Surface Paradise. Until then, catch them at the Northcote Social Club on May 2:
