Splendour In The Grass: GREEN Initiatives
» Coldplay Postpones Australian Visit - February 10, 2012
There are just over three weeks to go until Splendour In The Grass kicks off for 2011, and the organizers are eager to outline the key green initiatives to conserve and protect the environment in which the festival operates.
The 'Carbon Offset Ticket', which has achieved impressive statistics over the past 4 years, gives the patrons to actively participate in the fight to tackle climate change. Three additional recycling initiatives are introduced to improve recycling rates. 'Splendour Recycling Club' motivates the audience to collect drink containers for a chance to win major prizes. 'Green Chiefs' are groups of environmental undergraduate students helping to keep the place shipshape and providing information about recycling and general waste facilities for our campers. 'Green Team' is the third program comprised of volunteers who will be scouring the event area collecting cans and plastic bottles for recycling.
Splendour's Eco Cops will also be on patrol, making sure that everyone is showing proper respect to the surrounding 'Woodfordia' environment. Please note we will continue to maintain a close eye to ensure all cigarette butts are properly disposed of. Eco Cops will be handing out masses of BinYaButts personal ashtrays. We believe this initiative will help stop cigarette butts from entering the surrounding environment.
