The Cat Empire - Tackling Sustainablility in Sydney

The passion for sustainability that Felix from The Cat Empire holds, has now become a passion shared, as The Cat Empire present a solar system to Forest Lodge Public School on October 17, and Felix delivers talks on sustainability before the Metro shows in Sydney next week.

At 11.30am next Wednesday October 17, The Cat Empire will present to Sydney’s Forest Lodge Public School a solar system, which will reduce the schools energy consumption by up to 25%.

The decision to do this comes as a result of the band navigating the confusing world of emission offset, and committing to finding their own tangible, effective way to contribute back.

“It was important for us to do something relevant, and tangible that we could be involved in, the outcomes of which could be measured and reviewed over time” said Felix. “Offsetting emissions isn’t just for greenies. There is a logic for everyone about taking responsibility on this issue”.

The bands research revealed a program which was seen to fulfil these objectives. The Solar Schools program has done much to raise awareness about the viability of solar power in residential applications and allows schools to save on their energy bills, while also educating students about sustainable practices. While at Forest Lodge Public School, Felix will present his sustainability talk; a version of which will be presented prior to some of the eight sold out Metro gigs The Cat Empire are playing in Sydney next week. Felix will be joined by special guests on the afternoons of Tues 16, Wed 17, Fri 19, Sat 20 to discuss various issues surrounding this very broad topic of “Sustainability”. Other band members from The Cat Empire will also join Felix to answer more general questions about the band. Felix said of the workshops “As a band we want to demonstrate that with very little effort, it is easy to neutralise the impact of your day to day activity, by making a positive investment back. More important than neutralising your impact though is actually lowering your personal impact through more sustainable regular practices, and that is what my talks will be about. It is also what our song 'No Longer There' is about – what is it that we will be leaving behind if we don’t think about this issue seriously.”
