Dark Times (Symphony No. 2) is the eagerly anticipated follow up to Cam Butler’s critically lauded 2006 See (Symphony No. 1). Like all of Butler’s music, the notable things about this new record are its cinematic breadth, stunning instrumentation, Butler’s sometimes otherworldly guitar playing and the overwhelming sense that this is music that comes from an artist who has little in the way of choice when it comes to making unique music, but everything in the way of integrity, scope and vision.
Inspired by a love of medieval music, the symphonies of Beethoven as well as epic Australian guitar music, the drums, strings and guitars of Dark Times make it an album that will wash over you like a tempestuous ocean. Variously cinematic, operatic, infectious and moody, Dark Times is eight engrossing tracks of pure musical emotion. Cam will be launching Dark Times in Melbourne with The Shadows of Love Orchestra (drums, double bass, guitar and a string quartet) and live visuals by River River on Saturday September 13 with very special guest, Grand Salvo
