Tomás Ford’s July Semi-National Tour saw him break pretty much every piece of equipment he owns. While the intensity of his solo electro-punk act means his gear is always on the verge of total collapse, those shows were so full on that when he unpacked back in Perth, he found all his equipment was pretty much dead. A couple of months with a soldering iron and some insurance claim forms later, his gear is back in working condition and he is once again heading back to the east coast for some tour dates.

If you didn’t see Ford’s last shows, you missed out on an extremely messy, punk rock take on electro. In between tweaking his electro beats, growling and aggressively crooning, Ford changes between OTT costumes, flashes his rig of workmen’s lights and jumps all over the venue like a lemur in the throes of a speed binge. If it sounds intense, that’s because it is, but it’s a huge amount of fun.

His last tour around this side of the country saw him incite a midweek moshpit in Canberra, stun a capacity 2AM show at Pony in Melbourne and pull his entire setup down a flight of stairs during his set at Sydney’s sosueme. “My last east coast run I did were some of the most fun shows I’ve ever done. I’m a little concerned they’re getting more and more fucked up, but so long as I’m not dead and we’re all enjoying ourselves, it’s all good, isn’t it?”

These shows will be his last east coast dates before the launch of his Bash Myself single at the end of the year, from his forthcoming record Tomás Ford vs The Audience, due out next year. He plays at Northcote Social Club on Wednesday October 8 with special guests Neon Knights. More information and music downloads are available from http://tomasford.com (.)
