All India Radio
with Steve Kilbey and Telafonica
Melbourne-based ambient quartet All India Radio will launch their fifth album Fall in Sydney this month.
Following feature albums on PBS FM (VIC) and Edge Radio (TAS), and airplay on 2SER, Triple R, RTR and SYN FM, All India Radio will play The Excelsior Hotel in Surry Hills on Thursday 25 September, with a very special appearance from Steve Kilbey (The Church) playing tracks from his forthcoming collaboration album with All India Radio’s Martin Kennedy.
Released through Inevitable Records, Fall is a delicately beautiful album with entrancing vocals and lush cinematic sound-scapes. Also contributing to the album’s majestic sound is Graham Lee (The Triffids, KLF albums Chill Out and The White Room), who plays on the track 'Asphixicate'.
Since forming in 1999, All India Radio has evolved from a DJ Shadow-esque solo act into a post-rock instrumental band best described as “lonesome sagebrush guitar meets swirling deep-space technology” (SPIN). Along the way they have collected numerous accolades including a John Peel ‘Album of the Week’, an ARIA nomination, and had their music featured in Michael Moore's hit film Sicko.
Now All India Radio has taken another evolutionary step. Leona Prue has joined the band on vocals, and Fall is the result. Drawing from their previous ambient and atmospheric styles, Leona's vocals lift the band out of post rock territory and into the realms of the heavenly. Comparisons to Cinematic Orchestra, Zero 7 and Portishead now sit alongside comparisons of old including Boards of Canada, Sigur Ros and Ennio Morricone.
Signed internationally to legendary Chicago-based label Minty Fresh, All India Radio toured the US extensively in 2007. With the band making their way to Sydney this month, don't miss your chance to hear their latest offering – Fall.
