Lilith Lane
“Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Lilith Lane’s debut album has the determined, gritty introspection of an artist playing to herself in a pub while the rowdy punters won’t listen. My Cowboy (Man’s Man) puts Lane’s longing for a man ‘boots and all’ over spaghetti western strings, ghostly ooohs and rattlesnake percussion. Think The Kill Devil Hills fronted by a less angry Abbe May. Fishing has a PJ Harvey vibe with it’s wailing, candid pillow talk and spacious production. Lane’s writing eschews hooky pop choruses or predictable song structure for a more atmospheric, balladeer sound. Winter is a particularly good example of this with it’s eerie choir backing and sparse piano accompaniment. The intimacy, honesty and rasp of Lane’s delivery prevents this album from becoming just another blushing homage to Nick Cave. It’s refreshingly genuine.”

Mark Steiner
Mark Steiner, the much-praised indie Norwegian-American artist, is touring in Australia in September 2008. Born and raised in New York City, the ex-pat fled the decaying music scene of Lower Manhattan in the wake of September 2001, and soon found himself in Oslo, Norway, where he began to summon, weave and orchestrate his international confederacy of "lounge-noir" and "swamp-rock" musicians.
In Hobart, he will share the stage with Lilith Lane (key - vox).

In Europe, his backing band the Fallen Birds are extraordinary collection of like minded-musicians from the US, Norway, France, Germany and Portugal. They collaboratively record in Paris, New York, Oslo, Dortmund and Florida and in 2008 Mark released his solo debut Little Fallen Birds on vinyl and CD in Europe and the USA, to rave reviews in New York and Norway. He has toured Norway with The Fallen Birds, and has played New York City, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Prague, Reykjavik and Lisbon recently.

As they say, "Mark Steiner's special brand of 'Lounge-Noir' will have you reaching for the booze and the 'replay' button."
